After being in London for almost a month, we started beating ourselves up about the fact that we had not yet booked a single weekend trip to get out of the UK and start exploring Europe a bit. So one Sunday, we spent a few hours and decided that our first trip would be to Vienna. One of the deciding factors was that Vienna's Christmas market at the Rathaus (Vienna's city hall) is often listed as one of Europe's best, and since we planned the trip for Thanksgiving weekend, it was a perfect way to kick-off the holiday season. It was a great weekend - the city of Vienna is beautiful and relaxed, there are great restaurants and shopping, and plenty of sights to see. We went to several Christmas markets, checked out a performance of the Royal Lipizzaner horses at the Spanish Riding School and toured the state apartments and treasury of the Hofburg Palace. Here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure...
One of many mugs of apfelpunsch!
Beautiful tile roof of St. Stephen's Cathedral. After the trip, one of Kyle's co-workers told him that his grandfather repaired this roof after it was damaged in WWII.
